REVIEW: Cyclefly - Crave Radioactive Records, 2002
5/10
Cyclefly - Crave - cover art Cyclefly was formed on the southwest coast of Ireland back in 1995 and might very well become one of the new stars on the modern rock scene. The band made it to the best new artist lists of NME, Kerrang! and Rock Sound in 1999 which means that some people obviously like them a lot. One of these is Linkin Park's Chester Bennington who has leant his voice to one of the tracks on this album which is the second from the band. Cyclefly is actually one of his favorite bands. Unfortunately Linkin Park isn't the most exciting band in the world and nor is Cyclefly. They do have some interesting melodies going now and then but most of this album is boring sweet pop metal that does nothing to me and it only feels grey and dull and only fits as background music while working on something else. Exceptionally horrible are the wailing vocals. This might appeal to fans of Linkin Park, Nickelback and other such bands but otherwise I would stay away from this album if I was you. If I ever am going to enjoy the music of Cyclefly for real they have got to make their music either more aggressive or more passionate and melodic because as it is now it simply lacks meaning and purpose. At least there is one good song called "Crowns" and another pretty nice one called "Fallen Wishes" which sounds like it was taken off Megadeth's "Risk" album mixed up with a little Marilyn Manson tendencies. This isn't really bad music, just not very interesting.
