REVIEW: Dagoba - Dagoba Enternote, 2003
7/10
Dagoba - Dagoba - cover art After a much acclaimed demo the French band Dagoba attracted the attention of Enternote and even the major label EMI who decided to release their self-titled debut album to a wider audience. The band also had a chance to show their skills on international stages last year guesting for the European Samael tour. Although Dagoba are more modern sounding and has a less characteristic personality than the Swiss veterans they do share their love for industrial rhythm patterns. Dagoba are more straight-forward, raw and aggressive I'd say and have mixed more traditional Fear Factory influences with 90s American heavy rock and a little bit of today's metalcore scene can be found in this musical concoction as well. Dagoba huff and puff all they can but the lack of originality and the constant repetition of basic industrial riffs tend to annoy more than entertain in the long run. The label wants to compare them to Rammstein and Marilyn Manson but they are wrong on both counts, do promo folks even listen to the music they're trying to sell? Sometimes you wonder... Anyway, this is not bad at all but you've heard it all before. If simply aggressive music and decent song writing does it for you then check out Dagoba.
