REVIEW: Dai Lo - The Constant Threat Of Accidental Death Copro Records, 2003
8/10
Dai Lo - The Constant Threat Of Accidental Death - cover art This is the first full length of a band that has been rocking the British stages for a few years now. An individual sound, melodic yet powerful music is what Dai Lo is about. The quartet have an interesting way of making their compositions sound thick and complex, dynamic in the style of Faith No More, Incubus-like vocals with maybe a bit more edge and charisma. Dai Lo have been lucky enough to work with legendary producers such as Rik Peet (producer of bands like Radiohead, Muse, SixbySeven) on their first demo and Tony Platt (AC/DC, Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin) in the summer of 2000 before hitting the road with likes of Earthtone9, King Praw, Linea 77 and The Step Kings. The songs on "The Constant Threat Of Accidental Death" sound just like they would've been written especially for the stage. And I'm sure they were. DL earned a reputation as a hard working band, thus catching the interest of Earache Records, who they didn't end up signing with eventually. Instead Copro Records decided to recruit the band and release their most anticipated first full length. All songs on the record are mainly written in the same style, thus giving the band an individual signature. The only exception to this is the last song in the tracklist, "Dead Man's Suit", a song with violin-like sounds, acoustic guitars that culminate into a distorted and a soaring chorus at the end. Good album, I would say. Definitely worth buying if you're into Faith No More, Muse, Incubus or other such bands...
