The lyrics are execrable, potty-mouthed, juvenile rants, but I can’t even bring myself to care when the music is this candid and pissed-off. Portuguese quartet Damien's Trail of Blood (can’t decide whether the name is evocative or just clunky) kicks out four awesome jams on this debut that mixes the poisonous elixirs of Machine Head, The Haunted, Coalesce and, I don’t know, Stampin' Ground? Sounds good! Just a full-on confrontational hybrid of thrash, death, hardcore and vestigial D-beat. The riffs are nowhere near as good or memorable as they ought to be and the smattering of clean vocals remind me that these guys probably spent a goodly amount of time devoted to bullshit metalcore in their formative years, but man, otherwise this is a killer in every sense of the word, topped by one of the most vitriolic screaming deliveries to come down the pike in some time. The whiff of inexperience is all over these guys, but so is palpable enthusiasm. You can bet your sweet bippy that I’ll be all over whatever these guys put out next.
