When Finland's Darcane would record their fourth promo, they decided to make it professional in a decent studio. Good choice. "Anamorphica" is a real diamond among other modern (or diverse as they say) metal. Heavy riffing mixed with harmonic, still somewhat harsh, vocals. I find Darcane very pleasing. The music is like pop music mixed with NWOSDM (New Wave Of Swedish Death Metal), consisting of many nuances with quite an anxious feeling. There is always a big amount of bass surrounding the melodies and that gives a warm touch in the middle of all agony. And it’s also nice to hear a bass player getting some room. The quite slow-paced second track called "Rebels Evermore" has some great bass lines and I believe that it is my favorite on this recording. It’s hard to decide though because the three songs sound completely different from each other. "Stranger" is a groovy tune. It’s not fast nor slow, just good. A cool opener. "Rebels Evermore" is as said slower and has more distinctive melodies. Also quite groovy sometimes. "Something For The Pain" is split in two parts. They are not much different though, "Part II" is just heavier and faster. Actually, it's very much heavier... Thrash! "Anamorphica" doesn’t really sound like anything I’ve heard before. I mean, sure there are influences from bands I know of since earlier and on "Something For..." I hear a Children Of Bodom riff and later a Metallica-fill but it’s still very unique and still very good (ehh… what do I mean by that…? hehe).
If you aren’t afraid of listening to new music, Darcane is a great band to discover. Neatly composed and carefully executed diverse metal from Finland.
