Dargaard is an
Austrian band probably unknown by many of you. The band consists of Tharen
(Abigor, Amestigon, Heidenreich), who composes all the music and lyrics, and
the female vocalist Elisabeth Toriser (Abigor, Antichrisis). Although this is
a Napalm release their music is better labelled as electronic darkwave rather
than metal but due to the dark and emotional nature of the music I think it
will appeal to a lot of metal fans as well. It is suggestive and completely
electronic with lots of churchbells and orchestral keyboard arrangements.
Majestic emotional movie tunes fit as the background for sad tales of life and
death, chaos, darkness and eternity, told by the beautiful soft voice of
Elisabeth. The voice of Tharen, who used to be the vocalist of the black metal
band Abigor, can also be heard on a couple of tracks. Tharen seems to be
fascinated with the old classic languages since the first track is an ancient
Greek poem from 400 B.C. and the sixth one "Caverna Obscura" is a poem in
Latin from the great Roman poet Ovid[ius]. Altogether "In Nomine
Aeternitatis", the second release from the band, is a very beautiful
composition but the music is perhaps a little too soothing and Elisabeth's
voice sometimes tends to drown in it. The album was recorded, mixed and
mastered by Georg Hrauda and Tharen in Tonstudio Hoernix in 1999. The cover
face was painted by Elisabeth and digitally manipulated by Tharen. This is a
very talented band that we can hope to see more from in the near
future.
