REVIEW: Dark Funeral - De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine Regain Records, 2004
8/10
Dark Funeral - De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine - cover art After three full-length albums, three mini albums, countless of shows in Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and other countries, the time has now come for Dark Funeral to release their first live album. "De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine" was recorded during the band's tour in South America in September 2003 when they visited Brazil, Chile and Colombia, countries where they have a strong fanbase. The result is, forgive me for using such cliché sounding words, breathtaking. I am usually not a big fan of live albums, rather the contrary, but unlike many other live recordings this one sounds the way it should. It is not too polished like the live album from In Flames but it doesn't suffer from a crappy and cheap recording either. Dark Funeral have always taken their business seriously and they continue to do so ten years into their career. They have chosen the songs on this album wisely as well and it opens up with "The Arrival Of Satan's Empire", the title track of the band's last studio album "Diabolis Interium" and easily one of the best songs they have produced in their entire career in my opinion. If you are a big fan of the band then I guess this will be in your record collection right away but this is also a chance to experience some of the intensity of a live performance from one of the world's leading black metal bands. The experience can never be the same as the "real thing" and as this is "merely" a live recording I can not rate any higher. I would probably not have bought the album myself unless it was very cheap but that goes for almost every single live album.
