REVIEW: Darkane - Insanity Nuclear Blast, 2001
8.5/10
Darkane - Insanity - cover art From Sweden rises a new death metal force with a completely unique sound that would make a lot of bands jealous. Darkane has created their own metal style which their label Nuclear Blast has entitled "Futuristic Progressive Thrash/Death Metal". Some of the most varied death metal vocals, unusual but very technical drumming and blistering guitars join forces to create one of the strongest death metal outfits in the world. Darkane was formed after the Watchtower inspired band Agretator split up. The new band took on a more aggressive musical approach and here we see the second release from these very talented Swedes. Even though Darkane have carved out their own style it“s hard not to notice the influence from the Swedish thrash/death masters At The Gates but can you name one death metal band not influenced by them? Something that seems to be traditional for Swedish bands are strong melodies without sacrificing brutality and this is also the way Darkane works. After having listened to this nuclear assault you need to check to see that your head is stille there. Amazing vocals by Andreas Sydow makes Darkane even stronger than before but they still have some fine tuning to do before becoming the very best. The album was very well produced by Daniel Bergstrand at Dug Out Studio.
