REVIEW: Dawn Of Azazel - Vita Est Militia Super Terram (demo) Self-financed, 2000
4/10
Dawn Of Azazel - Vita Est Militia Super Terram (demo) - cover art Dawn Of Azazel is a black metal band from Auckland, New Zealand, that was formed in 1997. So far they have recorded a couple of demos and played some local shows but are negotiating for a record deal with Dark Horizon Records. It is not very easy to make yourself an opinion of this demo tape that was actually recorded two years ago (what have they been up to since then?) because the sound quality is awful. Unfortunately the sound quality isn't the only thing that is awful because so are the vocals. Dawn Of Azazel have managed to find a black metal vocalist who makes all others in that field sound like opera singers and that is quite an achievement if I may say so. Enough said about that. The music itself is pretty basic black metal inspired by the early Norwegian bands such as Immortal and Mayhem with some additional death metal drumming and riffing from the brutal American school. Not too bad but far too simple and insipid to be interesting. I'm sure these guys are capable of producing something better than this provided they invest in a real production, compose some riffs of their own and do something about that throat.
