REVIEW: Dawn Of Glory - Images Of Destruction (EP) Self-financed, 2002
6/10
Dawn Of Glory - Images Of Destruction (EP) - cover art Dawn Of Glory is a power metal band from the south of Sweden that formed in 1999 in the ashes of two bands called Monostheus and Fundamental. This is their third recording but it is the first with their new vocalist Björn "Balle" Persson. Some record companies have already taken interest in the band but they have not been offered a contract worth signing as of yet. These guys are fine musicians as proven with the music on this disc but if they want nothing but a major label deal I think they are aiming to high at the moment. They are trying to make their entrance into a world where the leading bands are called Gamma Ray, Primal Fear, Hammerfall and so on and that is a very difficult task to say the least. When having listened to these three tracks I can say that Dawn Of Glory has at least one very precious asset that they should cling on to namely the new vocalist who has a very powerful voice. Their music is certainly enjoyable and well performed but it feels a little stiff and lifeless at times. The band hasn't quite found a strong personality of their own yet either which is very important today when there are so many bands who try to do the very same thing. Dawn Of Glory is a band on the rise but I value originality a lot higher than skills today and there is unfortunately not much of that to be found here. The sound quality is however exceptional for a self-financed recording. These guys are professional and that is a very good thing.
