Daylight Dies' album "Dismantling Devotion" was released on March 27th 2006 on Candlelight Records. When the first track comes through my speakers my first thought is that it “all seems a bit familiar”. But after the first track is over I have grown quite fond of the contrast between vocals and music. The growls are filthy, rough and mean, almost like an early Darkthorne, and the music has a dark melody that almost puts tears in your eyes. At times you can also enjoy clean vocals, but as they already made the contrast between vocals and music this doesn't make much sense. The fact that the band has been support for groups like Katatonia on tour comes as no surprise, you can feel the same depressing atmosphere. This group is not afraid to get heavy; you can feel almost a pressure upon your chest at times. This sort of music often feels over-pretentious, but Daylight Dies knows when enough is enough. If you compare this album to their first release you can hear that they certainly have developed and matured, BUT they do not come up with news here, but on the other hand this is only their second album. I'm looking forward to hear more from this group in the future.
