Nice Melodic Death/Thrash Metal, sounds quite Swedish... I thought. But no!
Swedish greetings from Downunder! Yes, there aren´t very many well-known bands from Australia (unfortunately, as there are lots of nice bands, that deserve more attention).
So here we have the first, and so far only (but hopefully not the last) CD from Daysend, which was also album of the year at a radiostation in Australia. The name Daysend can be understood in the truest sense of the word, they´re indeed playing as if their lifes were at stake.
According to the saying "The first impression is the best", they start off with Born Is The Enemy - what a kick-ass song! Screamings, clear vocals, great riffing and impelling drums. At first I was afraid, that it´s impossible to keep this tempo and energy throughout the whole album, but after the first time listening to it, all doubts were blown away. Another interesting thing is, that Daysend are sometimes damn close to Metalcore , for example when it comes to shouting or impelling drums. But right at that point, where they get in "danger" of becoming too Metalcore, they get their act together. Great! This all sounds very enthusiatic so far and before someone starts complaining, that they didn´t invent anything new on this album, you´re right, they didn´t. But they do a perfect job in what they´re doing here. I guess there aren´t very many albums, where everything song is a good one, but here´s no song that I´d call really weak.
There are admittedly some songs that might need some time getting used to, like Sibling, because it´s somehow different from the others, even more "corish". But in contrast to the songs that need some time to grow there are as well songs like the great Countdown, that gets stuck in your head immediately. The whole song is a big catchy tune and if Daysend had produced a single, this song surely would´ve been the one. The whole song is an alteration of calm and driving, clean and screaming vocals, which make it very cliff-hanging. This alteration goes like a thread through the whole album.
For all of you out there, who like Melo-Death/Thrash in general, this CD is a must! I´m quite sure, that even people, who normally don´t like this kind of music, will have fun with it. Just check it out!
