De Lirium's Order was formed in Kuopio, Finland in 1998 and this debut album features the drumming skills of Corpse from Deathchain who left the band soon after. The band blends together death and thrash metal but in a different way than the well-known Swedish bands whose names I am not going to mention here. The death metal of De Lirium's Order is of the more brutal and technical kind. It is accompanied by very well done low growling vocals from Tuoppi who some might know from before as the guitarist of death metallers Slugathor. Amidst the furious guitar work and monstrous oral decorations there are both nice melodies and tasteful solos. The song writing is creative and the performance is tight and well coordinated and everything is backed up by a very powerful and sharp production from the well-known Tico Tico studio. Gore fans will have something to rejoice over in the lyrics that tell the stories of serial killers and their less pleasant acts.
De Lirium's Order have found their own personal style and there is so much going on in each and every song that this album never becomes boring, a problem too often related to death metal releases of today. "Victim No. 52" is one of the most powerful debut albums this genre has seen in a while and it is an unusually catchy and technical brutal death metal release. It this album had been released ten years ago, De Lirium's Order would no doubt be one of the best-selling death metal bands in the world today but even now it is very enjoyable music and worth spending a lil bit of money on.
