REVIEW: Dead To Fall - The Phoenix Throne Victory Records, 2006
5/10
Dead To Fall - The Phoenix Throne - cover art The third album from the metalcore band Dead To Fall has arrived and the Chicago based line-up has changed since last time. Considering how many members this band has lost since the beginning it is no wonder that the sound has changed a lot as well. On the album “The Phoenix Throne” the sound is less hardcore and more Scandinavian metal than it has been on the previous records. The development is striking and the band is tighter, the song writing has matured and the rhythm section is solid. I don’t hesitate to say that this is the best album so far from Dead To Fall. Unfortunately they still have a long way to go. The tracks still tend to lack personality and they blend into one another, making you wonder whether or not the album is just a few long tracks. Perhaps the band is still working out their last transformation, and if that is the case perhaps they will find their place eventually. “The Phoenix Throne” is still a remarkable development in the right direction, but not far enough.
