REVIEW: Deadlock - Wolves Lifeforce Records, 2007
8/10
Deadlock - Wolves - cover art Deadlock have quickly become one of those recognizable forces in the melodic death metal scene. With catchy songs and extreme aggression, their prior albums shape up quickly to be a force that shouldn't be taken lightly. This "straight edge" (as proclaimed by the band's label on a sticker to their last CD, Earth.Revolt) show that they have what it takes to destroy.

Wolves, their latest offering, is by far their best. With the introduction of Sabiner Weniger as a permanent female vocalist, instead of just being a girl who randomly did some singing, the band has obviously listened to their fans who demanded more songs like the ones with her on previous efforts. This is also a good thing because, now being a fulltime member of the band, she is not needed to over do her vocal duties. Deadlock has also taken it upon themselves to add more techno/progressive elements to their songs as well. Much noted is the intro to the amazing track "Code Of Honor" (much in the vain of "Awaken By Sirens" off Earth.Revolt), and the extremely questionable breakdown on "End Begins".

While there are a few moments on this CD that simply shouldn't be there, the rest of the album is just pure insanity. With incredible gutteral vocals, and astoundingly beautiful female vocals that work perfectly with the insanity and melodic elements of the band's music. The drums are perfect and sound great along the guitars and keyboards, which is obvious on "Bloodpact". There's "Praeludium II", which is a rather beautiful intermission on the album, however there is a rather out of place Dimmu Borgir battle-esque opening kicks off the track "Loser's Ballet" and seems to follow through the song.

Outside of a few out of place moments and errors in the band's judgement with the sound, this is quite possibly their best album to date. The CD is simply insane and closes with a beautiful solo by Sabiner which seems to be growing more common in metal bands lately. From start to finish you'll be in awe of the record and regret not getting it sooner.
