REVIEW: Death SS - The 7th Seal Regain Records, 2006
6.5/10
Death SS - The 7th Seal - cover art Until this moment I have only heard of Steve Sylvester's Death SS and never had the opportunity to listen to an album. Now that I have heard the new album "The 7th Seal" I was pleasently surprised by this Italian gothic horror metal band. The first track "Give Em Hell" puts a grin on my lips. It starts off with brutal industrial riffs followed by Steve's mean and naughty vocals, perfected with a very catchy chorus. This is unfortunatly wrapped up in a little bit too plastic cover which is absolutley unecessary. When the first track is over my expectations are rather high, but the following tracks don't really compare to the opening of the album. The tracks become more plain and you even get a traditional metal ballad. But after this mellow ballad they pick up where they started and another hit is delivered. This is a very catchy album all the way through and I suspect that they are trying to ride the wave of glam that has made a comeback in metal. If it's working for them, I'm not really sure, for me this would be perfected if it was more filthy and less plastic but it's all a matter of taste really. In conclusion, this is what I would call a hit album. There are a few songs that you can hear right away that this is a hit and then the rest of the songs are more mediocre. This is a bit sad, you can really hear the potential for greatness.
