REVIEW: Decadence - Theatre Of Eclipse Self-financed, 2002
6.5/10
Decadence - Theatre Of Eclipse - cover art Decadence is a new Italian band that was formed in August / September 2001 by musicians who had previous experience in various progressive, death and black metal bands. They set out with the somewhat ambitious goal to create a new form of metal that they themselves called obscure metal. Ambition is a mean to reach success though and this first release from the young band shows that there are a sufficient amount of talent within the band. The music of Decadence is very symphonic with both piano and orchestral keyboard elements that lay a dense slightly pompous atmosphere for chunky guitars and harsh vocals. They still need to work a little on becoming tighter and perhaps write more structured songs. The production is well done but unfortunately it kind of muffles the guitar sound which makes Decadence sound a little weak. They nevertheless have the future before them and I would very much like to see this band grow and develop further. They do have a very interesting sound and I think they will appeal to fans of melodic and symphonic black metal in particular but only if you have an open mind when it comes to music.
