REVIEW: Decapitated - Nihility Earache Records, 2002
7/10
Decapitated - Nihility - cover art Since Vader gained a name in the world of extreme metal there have been a huge number of death and black metal bands coming out of Poland. The common link between almost all Polish bands is that they are brutal and play very primal (I was close to writing simple here...) metal without excessive use of keyboards and other artificial sounds. This is also the case with Decapitated who now have finished the work on their follow-up to their 1999 Earache / Wicked World debut "Winds Of Creation". While still being brutal the guys of Decapitated also show a more varied side with some very technical playing. The only thing that keeps them from conquering the world is that the pounding drums and monotonous growling gets a little too much in the end. There is variety on this album, just not enough of it. I would have liked to see them develop their sound further until next time and perhaps make their music slightly more dynamic. I doubt they would do that just to please me but since I'm no big fan of Polish death metal in general it didn't come as a surprise to me. This is however a good solid release as far as brutal death metal goes but it has been done before.
