Decayed celebrated their 10th anniversary in the very year of
2000, so I suppose
this one is a little delayed, but we can blame it upon too
heavy banging over the
years I guess. Decayed is a reknown band in the black
metal underground, having
put out 4 albums to date, and also plenty of
singles and rarities. A real cultband
in that matter!
So, this celebration
of these Portugese guys is well deserved it seems, and on this
disc they have
put a "best of" and "live"-album into one, doing a show spanning
material
from their whole career since 1990. In addition they've put 4 rare
tracks, whereof 3
comes from last year, while one from the first year of
their existence, even before their
first demo!
What strikes me as odd with
this one is that the sound on the liverecording is too
good and professional
for this style. It's ok that they can have a good day on stage
and even
decent sound, but this is too much! It's pure-fucking black metal as it
is,
in the real oldschool vein of Bathory and Mayhem, so how can they have
managed
to get it this well done? I suspect some faulty tricks of the trade
here, but that's just
me. Musically what they are doing (never thought I'd
come to this!) is fair enough.
They do not totally convince me of their
material, but they have the right spirit and
oldschool feeling here, and that
is in this case enough to make it a listenable album.
Especially funny is
their cover-medley, doing everything from some creepy blues,
to Bathory and
Celtic Frost covers. At least that was
fun...
