REVIEW: Deceased - Behind The Mourners Veil (EP) Relapse Records, 2001
8.5/10
Deceased - Behind The Mourners Veil (EP) - cover art Because of a really evil throat infection I could not go to Wacken this year. One of the bands I was planning on seeing live for the first time in my life was the four American speed metal maniacs commonly known as Deceased. I am a little happier now though that their new EP has arrived. This in-between-albums release only contains three brand new songs from the band but they have also included covers of four metal classics: "Zombie Attack" by Tankard, "Reaganomics" by D.R.I., "New Age Of Total Warfare" by Warfare and last but not least "Deathrider" by Anthrax. The new Deceased tracks are as usualy high quality speed trips, proving once and for all that it is actually possible to go faster than light (well, perhaps not but they are damn close...). The covers are all extremely good ones in the original versions, except for the not so spectacular "Reaganomics", and Deceased have done their job well with them. This disc probably deserves an ever higher rating but since there are only three songs composed by the band themselves I decided to stay with this one. If you're a fan on heavy speed/thrash metal you would not want to miss out on this EP and definitely not the up-coming full-length album.
