Deceiver is a new band name that you should store in your memory bank from now on. If you do not take my word for it then take Tomas Nyqvist's. He is one of the most important individuals in helping to create a solid and vivid Swedish metal scene from the very start. He began with his Putrefaction zine, then went on to form No Fashion Records, a label responsible for discovering bands like Dissection, Marduk, Katatonia and Unanimated to mention a few. After some years away from the music business he has now revived his post-No Fashion label Iron Fist Productions with help from certain respected people from the Swedish metal business. He knows extreme music well and this is why Deceiver now ends up releasing their debut MCD for his label. This young band was created in January 2004 by Pete Flesh (Maze Of Torment), Crille Lundin (ex-Xenofanes, ex-Maze Of Torment), Magnus Flink and Destormo. At the end of May they recorded six tracks at the Abyss studio together with Tommy Tägtgren. Five of those songs appear on this release while the sixth has been saved for a 7" release later this autumn.
Musically Deceiver have their roots in the 80s when metal was raw and aggressive. Bands like Motörhead, Judas Priest, Metallica and Venom were the heroes of these musicians. Not surprisingly Deceiver has one big thing in common with Maze Of Torment, that is a very thrashy and intense sound. On top of these energetic thrash riffs, Deceiver have added lots of classic heavy metal riffs, resulting in a very interesting and powerful mix. The cover art looks a bit cheap but when the content is of much higher quality I don't really care about such details. Deceiver is a band to bang your head to and if you miss the 80s then go for it. Stand-out tracks: "Deceiver".
