REVIEW: Deceiver - Riding With The Reaper Iron Fist Productions, 2005
7/10
Deceiver - Riding With The Reaper - cover art Deceiver was assembled in the year 2002, fronted by Maze Of Torment's Pete Flesh (he has since parted ways with the Swedish thrashers), and made their first official appearance last year with a well received self-titled mini album. Just like the EP, "Riding With The Reaper" has been recorded with Tommy Tägtgren at the Abyss Studio, providing these ten tracks with a raw sound that suits the music perfectly well. Deceiver performs primitive, straight-forward heavy metal á la Motörhead with a strong punky attitude and a solid dose of thrash metal influences that make the band members past with Maze Of Torment shine through once again. If I were to say that this is simple and primitive all the way through I would however be deceiving you. There is plenty of exquisite guitar work and wonderful Iron Maiden meets Motörhead melodies. This is highly enjoyable party metal that is absorbed at its best under the influence of suitably chosen beverages. When listening more closely the songs do tend to flow into each other after a while which is one of the few negative remarks I have to mention. Rough vocals and a very old-school feeling, you know by now if you like it or not. I do, that's for sure.
