REVIEW: December Wolves - Blasterpiece Theatre Wicked World, 2002
7/10
December Wolves - Blasterpiece Theatre - cover art December Wolves might seem to be a very strange name for a band but then again this is a very strange band. The cover art shows a man dressed in a black suit, carrying a large butcher's knife in one hand and a bone in the other. Instead of a head a bunch of different colored snakes are rushing out of his throat. You might have guessed it by now - this is insane grindcore made for insane people. Track titles like "April Fools Day" and "Sharing Needles" imply that December Wolves try to add some humor to their lyrics which is very common among modern grindcore bands of today. Since the lyrics are often very extreme this might be necessary to take away some of the seriousness in order to give the listener a more varied impression of the music. I'm not that keen on grindcore in general but December Wolves is one of a few good bands that I've had the pleasure of listening to. This album is a very intense one where the music is almost as crazy and chaotic as the lyrics. I especially enjoy the spoken passages which are often pretty amusing. Perhaps it gets a little too chaotic for my limited taste at times but all in all this is a good album that should please many fans of extreme metal. This album finishes off with one of the best and most intense songs I've ever heard!
