REVIEW: Defecation - Intention Surpassed Nuclear Blast, 2003
5.5/10
Defecation - Intention Surpassed - cover art Trust Nuclear Blast to have one of their few non-weak NWOSM bands be this one-man side project of Napalm Deaths' Mitch Harris. Harris thanks Napalm drummer Danny Herrera for the use of his drums in the liner notes, and I'm left to wonder exactly what he used them for, as the drums on this album certainly stem from a machine. The vibe of Defecation seems to be more black-tinged "rock" than grind, and a couple of tracks even sound pretty much like punk rock, as in the case of "Under Surveillance". "Shortfall" was one of the few tracks which offered anything able to keep one's mind form wandering. There seems to be a lack of tangible energy on this album, or perhaps direction. Any of the songs could be used by Napalm Death, including the lyrics, so the purpose of the band escapes me. Its ability to grown on you seems, at this point, to have the parallel appeal of a festering, malignant tumor.
