This is definitely one of the most promising bands I have ever heard. I can not recollect any band showing such potential for the future in years. The essence of their music is fast death metal, but they are not afraid of changes in tempo or to blend in progressive / melodic / other elements. Another thing that must be pointed out is that the growl is awesome. American (and others) toilet-style growlers should definitely turn their heads towards Belgium and listen and learn as Christopher D. Wolff brings it on.
After this massive asskissing one might wonder why there is an "8" above and not more? There are a few reasons. One is that their music occasionally is too "pointy". By piling one massive riff after another or suddenly shifting tempo without maintaining flow, they make the the tunes feel inhomogeneous. They also add clean, talky and shrieky vocals, and all are way behind the growling in terms of quality, sometimes they actually feel rather cheezy. The variation in vocals is great, but the execution quite not so.
Their strength lie in their versatility, but sometimes they are really close to being over the edge. When clean vocals and power-metally influences suddenly enter (at the same time) they are way too close to slaying a perfectly nice tune (track number 4).
If they manage to get their shit even more together for their next album it will be epic, and I would be the first to reward them with a top score. Hopefully they can find a little more flow, refine or remove the things which are inadequate, still maintaining the things which make them great. This is still the most exciting band I have been exposed to in years, so get this album, and look for "Deformity" in the future! Incredibly impressive guys, keep up the good work!
And guys... The proper spelling is "acoustic", aight? ;)
