After two demo recordings, Indianapolis thrashers Demiricous have been picked up by Metal Blade Records for the release of their debut album, appropriately entitled "One (Hellbound)". If you like the intense riffage of Slayer but find Tom Araya's vocals annoying (and I know there are quite a few of you out there who do) then look no further. This is if you can stand a more brutal version of the thrash veterans. Frontman Nate Olp (yes, that is actually his last name) deliver some mighty vocals that are more in the death metal vein than what you usually find with a thrash metal act and the overall production of "One (Hellbound)" breathes of death metal. Actually, Nate's vocal delivery reminds me more of Death than Slayer or Testament or any other band for that matter. Unfortunately the production does not really fit the thrashier side of their music although the brutal death metal influences work better in this milieu. In my opinion they would have benefited from a cleaner sound but it pretty much lies in the ears of the beholder I believe. Slightly generic songs but nonetheless a tight and well executed collection of thrash metal that most Slayer fans should recognize and appreciate if you care for a rawer and more brutal edge.
