A dark
brooding intro, oh my, could it be black metal? Predictable? Well, yes, but
who really cares anyway. Demon Child is a Finnish band who have been doing
their own thing since their formation in the year 2000. Opening up their
discography with the Sound Riot release "Shadow Cult" they will probably
gather a reasonably large following worldwide. Their sound is very Norwegian
and at times they make me think of a less dense and creative version of
Emperor. Even though there are some atmospheric fractions to be spotted in a
few places the songs are generally straight-forward and traditional sounding
with too few surprises to really make them stand out from the numerous
competition of today. The music is well played and you can't complain much
about the song writing either but as I've already tried pointing out they
need to find new ways doing the old thing if they want to compete with the big
boys. However, if you are just looking for a good old entertaining black metal
album then Demon Child will probably do well. It is not underproduced but it
does not come with a stellar sound quality either. In every aspect it seems
like this album is somewhere around a decent rating but definitely moving
towards higher ground. It is a very promising debut album and being only a
couple of years of age the Demon Child will now start spreading its darkness
over the world. Check it out if you're into black metal, you will probably
not find it to be amazing but there is a big chance you'll be able to enjoy
it. Violent, riff-happy and black with a sense of controlled chaos. Stand-out
tracks: "In Darkened World", "The Order Of The Black Flame (The Fallen One
Has Arrived, pt.2)", "Coldblessed", "Torch Of
War".
