REVIEW: Demons & Wizards - Demons & Wizards Steamhammer Records, 1999
9/10
Demons & Wizards - Demons & Wizards - cover art Demons & Wizards is the (one time?) project between Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth and Hansi Kürsch of Blind Guardian, two of the most important bands in the metal world of today. Jon and Hansi had admired each others work at a distance for a long while and they now decided to do something together just for fun. Even if they did it mostly for fun I think they also wanted to create something good as well and they sure didn't fail. The music is mostly in the Iced Earth vein since Schaffer plays all guitars accompanied by the unmistakable vocals from the vocal wizard from the world of Tolkien. Kürsch is approving his vocals all the time and this is some of the most impressive singing he has done so far, showing off every possible vocal approach there is. This is an album consisting of half tragedy and half aggression but most importantly it is full of the passion and love for music that only can be found in very few people. Both Jon and Hansi have many years of hard work and practice behind them and this album is proof of their highly developed skills. It is no coincidence that Iced Earth and Blind Guardian belong to the elite.
