REVIEW: Descend - Requiem Of Flame Metal Age Productions, 2002
6/10
Descend - Requiem Of Flame - cover art From Cleveland, Ohio, hails this death metal band called Descend. "Requiem Of Flame" is their debut full-length album but they have previously released a split cd with All That Is Evil as well. Their brand of death metal is brutal but also very technical, fast and extremely intense. You will not find any time to rest while listening to this album. The first couple of tracks actually sound very good but the problem that Descend suffers from is that in the end it feels as if you have heard the same type of riffs a little bit too much... The gurgling vocals isn't exactly what I would call impressive but they work as they are mainly finding their place in the background. Descend have put themselves in a difficult position. They are obviously capable musicians and could be on to something but it is hard to give them advice on how to get there. The road that they have chosen for their music is a hard one and it takes a lot if you want to stick out as a unique band. What separates Descend from most other brutal death metal bands is that they have incorporated lots of heavy / thrash metal sounds in their music which makes their music quite interesting. A decent release from the band.
