REVIEW: Desecration - Gore and PerVersion 2 Copro Records, 2003
7/10
Desecration - Gore and PerVersion 2 - cover art Having had legal troubles due to their questionably obscene content, these Welshmen decided to re-record songs written 10 years ago to make up this release. Not surprisingly, "Gore and PerVersion 2" actually sounds old. This is not to say that it's necessarily a good or bad thing, only that the metal of Desecration is traditional when compared to the likes of Nile, Spawn of Possession etc. Both Polish and American flavours seem to emanate on tracks like "Raping the Corpse", while "I.A.I." was very early 80's thrash in many ways. "Dead Bitch in the Skip" begins with a few bars of absolutely crushing death, a nice contrast when stacked up next to the assault rifle chattering of "No More Room in the Freezer". The trio's crowning achievement this time around was "To Kill With a Drill" for me, as it contained an odd smattering of progressive sensibilities. Also noteworthy were the triplet passages of "Fontanelle Fornication". Old-school bands seem to have to be viewed objectively to be appreciated, and Desecration is definitely a band which falls into the old-school category. Catchy yet dangerous, they are an outfit that will find themselves on the playlists of those with a penchant for Bloodbath, Nihilist and the like.
