REVIEW: Desecration - Pathway To Deviance Copro Records, 2002
8/10
Desecration - Pathway To Deviance - cover art This is definitely my first exposure to a band hailing from Wales. You know, the other part of the U.K. It is puzzling to me why there aren't more extreme metal bands coming out of such an infamously ill-tempered area. Apparently, Desecration have run into some press problems at home in the past, as well as the banning of their first album, 1995's "Gore And Perversion". It didn't take me long to get into this album. Tons of blast beats and double bass runs, guttural vocals, twin guitar savagery and a great attack on the bass. The production on this 10-song CD is well above average, boosting the natural threat of the songs with crystal divergence. Quite a few bands come to mind, which is to be expected after 4 albums in 7 years: a little Deicide here, some Suffocation there, maybe a bit of Polish death. Desecration manage to keep the purity of death metal resplendent with innovative tracks like "Swollen" and the steamrolling "They Bled". The Welshmen (I can't believe that is being mentioned in a metal review) use some well-picked samples to their advantage and have got a bloody good death metal album here.
