REVIEW: Destinity - Under The Smell Of Chaos Adipocere Records, 2003
6/10
Destinity - Under The Smell Of Chaos - cover art Since 1996 these French blacksters have been working hard to take their music to perfection and this is their second album for the native label Adipocere Records. I have not heard any of the previous material from the band but what I can tell you from listening to these 42 minutes of audial terrorism is that they know their instruments well enough to compose decent black metal and make it sound both tight and mature. Now we know that they have spent some time rehearsing and practicing. So far, so good. The second thing a band needs to come up with is interesting songs and at least something that resembles an own identity. This is where Destinity tend to fail a little. "Under The Smell Of Chaos" displays a band who have been heavily influenced by the early Dimmu Borgir releases and although they don't copy them straight off there is something missing to make them stand out from the many other bands who share the same influences. Dimmu Borgir had something out of the ordinary which was quickly noticed by major metal labels worldwide but this is what is still missing with Destinity. A decent release but they need something more to reach the next level.
