REVIEW: Destruction - The Antichrist Nuclear Blast, 2001
8.5/10
Destruction - The Antichrist - cover art Destruction were one of the early thrash metal titans of Germany together with Sodom and Kreator and I doubt any fan of true metal could be missing the "Sentence Of Death" and "Infernal Overkill" albums in their record collections. After close to ten years of hibernation the band was resurrected with the "All Hell Breaks Loos" album last year to the delight of thousands of fans all over the world. They have definitely not turned soft over the years, something that was shown once and for all in front of the lucky ones who witnessed any of their shows on their European tour with Dimmu Borgir and Susperia earlier this year (among them me). "The Antichrist" is a very good album from the Germans with plenty of great riffs, raging vocals and a Hypocrisy-like production from the sound wizard Peter Tägtgren. There is however something missing to make it as interesting as the classic albums from the 80's. The playfulness and initial energy from the old days have been lost somewhat but fortunately Destruction is still a band that is more than capable to produce some great thrashy metal that should be more than welcome to enter the hearts of metal fans. Thrash till death!
