REVIEW: Destruction - Thrash Anthems AFM Records, 2007
8.5/10
Destruction - Thrash Anthems - cover art Unlike others I found the remastered versions of the old Megadeth classics to be some of the best recordings ever made, despite maybe removing some of the old school charm of the poor early productions. Now the European thrash pioneers Destruction have also decided to re-record some of their old material from the 80s for the release of the compilation "Thrash Anthems". Schmier and his cohorts once again prove that they have not lost one single trace of the intensity and energy of the past, instead they have grown to become an even tighter and more precise act. The raging riffs of "Bestial Invasion" or the haunted screams of "Mad Butcher" have never sounded as powerful and captivating as they do here. I still think that the band fails with "Total Desaster" though as Vader has done a cover version of that song which is much better. The production is not everything but the updated Destruction sound is mighty as hell. Trust me on that. Compilations and re-releases rarely make sense but this time it most certainly does.
