Devils Whorehouse was born in Norrköping, Sweden, in the year 2000 when local musicians Zwedda and Hrafn got together with Morgan and B. War from the black metal band Marduk and started playing Misfits and Samhain covers. It didn't take long before they began to write their own songs though and an EP called "The Howling" was released the very same year. It has taken very long to record the debut full-length album due to the intense Marduk activities but now the time has finally come for "Revelation Unorthodox". Lyrically and conceptually this is more or less a spin-off on Marduk's "Obedience" EP where they display their fascination for bondage and sado-masochism. They are not that narrow here though but delve into more of a horror inspired storyline. As you may suspect the music is heavily inspired by the punk rock of The Misfits but there are death metal touches added here and there and in the opening track even some black metal á la Marduk shine through. Devils Whorehouse doesn't display any greater sense of originality but that is not their intention either. Despite lacking originality and rather simple worn-out lyrics ("Bondage goddess - love hurts") this is still a competent album that should appeal to fans of The Misfits and Danzig in particular and horror / punk rock in general. Stand-out tracks: "Funeral Dream".
