REVIEW: Diabolical - A Thousand Deaths Scarlet Records, 2002
7.5/10
Diabolical - A Thousand Deaths - cover art The Swedish melodic death / thrash metal band Diabolical have returned with the follow-up to last year's "Synergy", an album that showed a young promising band with a lot of intensity and power. The new album is if possible even more intense and the guitar work is now actually very impressive with lots of technical and chaotic riffs which make these Sundsvall natives one of the new Swedish hopes of extreme music. The vocals are also very nicely done and even though they are very aggressive compared to many other Swedish bands they sound clean and controlled which is extremely important for a band like Diabolical. The production is perfect as always since the band once again chose to work together with P.O. Saether at Studio Underground. The music of Diabolical have turned more complex with the time passing by and we will hopefully see a lot more from them in the future. Extreme music is a rough genre but Diabolical have come up with a way to make death / thrash metal beautiful which is not easy. Probably not the best release of the year but a very good quality album. The only thing I have to complain about is that it only lasts for 33 minutes, a little short, don't you think? Scarlet Records sometimes have the talent for finding the right bands and Diabolical is one of those.
