REVIEW: Diabolical - Deserts Of Desolation Cadla Communications, 2000
6.5/10
Diabolical - Deserts Of Desolation - cover art Diabolical is a band from Sundsvall in the north of Sweden, formed in 1996 under the name Misanthropic Orchestra. The music they perform is a weird mix of death and thrash metal with a black metal guitar sound, very technical and melodic at times without imitating all the Gothenburg bands of the 90s. Diabolical has managed to find their own sound by uniting several different styles and they show no intention of disappointing the listener. These guys show a lot of talent and with this MCD release the band was noticed and signed by the Italian label Scarlet Records. There are some drawbacks with this album though since it is a little short even for an MCD and the sound quality is not the best, something that affects the vocals in particular in a negative way. Other than that this is a very good first achievement from the band and I doubt that Scarlet made a mistake by signing them to their label. "Deserts Of Desolation" was recorded at Studio 4, engineered by Christian Piisilä and Lars Hult, mixed by Piisilä and the band, digitally mastered by Hult at Studio 4.
