Diatribe is a band from the southern parts of Australia who was formed as late as 2001 but have already had the chance to open up for a band like The Haunted in their country. They have had quite some local success lately and now they are looking out towards the rest of the world to test their limits. Indeed there is some interesting aspects to this demo cd which should be appreciated by many fans of modern metal no matter where in the world you live. Especially the oddly titled "Morebajana" displays a certain originality that the band ought to treasure. This is straight-forward chugga-chugga sledgehammer metal that doesn't really strike anyone as pioneering work for the genre but it is definitely good enough to be placed on a disc. If you're a big fan of today's Roadrunner releases, in particular Coal Chamber and Machine Head, then this could be something for you. There is one problem that they will need to struggle with when searching for a record contract namely the fact that there is no real character or personal touch to their music. It has been done before and although the vocalist Josh Smith has a powerful rough edged voice and the rest of the band is performing without noticeable flaws, the songs do not quite hold up on an international level at this point. A good demo nonetheless and I'm sure we will see more of this Aussie band in the near future.
