REVIEW: Dies Irae - The Sin War Metal Blade Records, 2002
7/10
Dies Irae - The Sin War - cover art Likely best known for having Vader's drummer and guitar player, Doc and Mauser, among their ranks, Dies Irae also play fast-paced Polish death metal. With the relentless precision of a sniper on full-automatic, Doc lays down pages of tidy and uninterrupted blast beats and double bass work as only a veteran with his experience could. "Horde of Angry Deamons" was one of few tracks offering anything outside of the Polish death standards, this coming in the form of the twin axe attack of Hiro and Mauser. Gearing the tempo down a notch for "The Truth" also stirred the coagulations ,as did the songs' lateral guitar trade-offs, which brought to mind the speaker call/answer work of early Florida death guitar teams. One of many cases where the able execution of an existing pleasure, in the case of Dies Irae Polish death metal, outweighs cravings for deviation.
