REVIEW: Dim Mak - Intercepting Fist Mighty Music, 2002
7/10
Dim Mak - Intercepting Fist - cover art Dim Mak means 'death touch' and is an ancient martial arts technique that consists of striking certain points on the body to cause illness or death. Dim Mak is also the name of an American death metal band that rose out of the ashes of Ripping Corpse. In 1999 they released their debut album "Enter The Dragon" through the Singapore based label Dies Irae Productions and now, three years later, they finally return with a new creation. This album pretty much continues in the same vein as their previous one with high velocity brutality, intense riffing and rough apocalyptic growling. The whole package comes with a nice solid production done by the band's long time friend and former members of Ripping Corpse Erik Rutan. The song structures are well thought out and the songs are performed by some very skilled death metal musicians, something that gives the album a very professional appearance. I don't know if this is enough to cause any illness or death but it is nevertheless a good solid brutal death metal release that should please many fans of the genre. It does however not offer that much new to the scene and I am not too fond of the vocals myself. Please note that the cover art shown here is for the American release through Olympic Recordings. The European release from Danish based Mighty Music comes with different artwork.
