REVIEW: Dimension Zero - Silent Night Fever Regain Records, 2002
9.5/10
Dimension Zero - Silent Night Fever - cover art Jocke Göthberg (ex-Marduk) on vocals, In Flames musicians Jesper Strömblad and Glenn Ljungström, Pathos' Daniel Antonsson on guitars and drummer Hans Nilsson (ex-Diabolique, ex-Liers In Wait, The Great Deceiver). A very impressive line-up created sky-high expectations on this debut album. "Silent Night Fever" starts in a violent fashion with the fast and aggressive title track. The band never abandons this aggression but once you start carving deeper into the album you discover those beautiful melodies which made the early In Flames releases so memorable. Glenn and Jesper have certainly put their personal fingerprints on these nine songs but Dimension Zero is far from being an In Flames copy. Instead they offer us a fresh new take on melodic death metal which is more than welcome as this genre has become over-populated by At The Gates and In Flames clones who do not wish to add anything to the scene but just honor the past, or so it seems sometimes. I will make it simple for you now so here you have it black on white: "Silent Night Fever" is one of the best melodic death metal releases ever. It is melodic, it has an aggressive bite that few, if any, others can present and it offers the listener one of the most intense musical rides they will ever experience in their life.
