Dimmu Borgir hardly needs
an introduction after having been in the black metal elite since 1994 when
they released their legendary debut 7". Now, anno 2001, they are releasing
their seventh full-length album, one of the most anticipated releases of the
year. No need to worry about the result since we will not see Dimmu Borgir
doing something like Theatre Of Tragedy. This album is a natural follower on
their last release "Spiritual Black Dimension" but with a few new
interesting moves like the more playful bonus track and the participation of
the Gothenburg Symphonic Orchestra. One thing that is a little different than
before is that they don´t seem to rely as much on the keyboards and piano but
more on complex drumming and heavy crushing guitars. No need to go kill
yourselves though - the symphonic keyboards and Simen´s beautiful clean vocals
are still there. The line-up changes doesn´t seem to have restricted the
band´s songwriting and with the new members Galder (from Old Man´s Child),
Vortex (Borknagar), Mustis and Nick Barker (Cradle Of Filth), Dimmu Borgir has
created their own black metal dreamteam. Nothing can or will stand in the way
of these evil creatures from Norway and with this album they have almost
reached the point of sheer perfection. The album was magnificently well
produced at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg,
Sweden.
