REVIEW: Dimmu Borgir - Spiritual Black Dimensions Nuclear Blast, 1999
9/10
Dimmu Borgir - Spiritual Black Dimensions - cover art Say what you want about the Norwegian satanic masters of Dimmu Borgir but they do certainly have lots of musical talent. This is first class symphonic black metal with lots of keyboard arrangements but also lots of speed guitar riffs that sounds great with the almost perfect production we are used you hear from the Nuclear Blast releases. Fast guitars and drums accompanied by powerful keyboard arrangements - the typical modern black metal style but still done very nicely. Some classical influences can also be heard on the album. The lyrics are all related to satanism in some way and seem very abstract and difficult to understand. Mostly growling vocals but some clean male vocals can also be caught by your ears. This is definitely one of the best black metal releases for a long time and the album was also produced by the one and only Peter Tägtgren from Hypocrisy. Top class metal from one of the finest!
