REVIEW: Dimmu Borgir - World Misanthropy (DVD) Nuclear Blast, 2002
7.5/10
Dimmu Borgir - World Misanthropy (DVD) - cover art The thing that really impressed me about this DVD is the packaging. With incredible artwork, a killer fold out design featuring the member pictures from the “Puritancial Euphoric Misanthropia” inserts and 3 disc’s (2 video and 1 audio) each with red “6’s” emblazed on a black background. The opening intro to the DVD and cover page is also elaborately laid out with a 3 dimensional design and a user-friendly navigation menu. The menu options are simple and on the first disc let you choose between “Live Misanthropy” which is the live shows from Wacken 2001 and Stuttgart 2001 or “All Misanthropy” which includes both live shows with interludes of backstage footage and one on one band member interviews. While the production of the actual live footage is predominantly good, the song selections are a little disappointing to say the least featuring all new material excluding the two tracks “The Blazing Monoliths of Defiance” and “The Insight and the Catharsis”. The backstage footage is none other than home video recordings consisting mostly of random shots with the band backstage or relaxing on tour with some rather humorous clips of drunken foolishness including Silenoz trashing a hotel bathroom. The interviews are certainly the highlight of the bonus material, with each band member discussing topics ranging from the age they got involved in music to their influences and more.
