REVIEW: Discharge - Discharge Sanctuary Records, 2002
7.5/10
Discharge - Discharge - cover art Discharge was formed when the first wave of punk music arrived to the British shores in 1977. After several line-up changes the band released their debut EP "Realities Of War" in 1980 (a great year!). In the early days of their career they were a pure punk band but they went on to incorporate metal and hardcore influences as years passed by to develop a unique sound of their own. This is a very important band out of a purely historical point of view since they have been a major source of inspiration for bands like Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror and Slipknot. After a ten year long "break" the band now returns with their new album which has simply been given the same name as the band. This is Discharge and all the original band members are back together again to show the world that they are still as aggressive, tight and hard as ever before. These hardcore / punk veterans are no youngsters no more but they are still able to deliver an album more energetic than most other bands of today within their genre. I have never been a big fan of hardcore nor punk music but Discharge is one of the few bands that I enjoy and admire. There is a raw Motörhead feeling about this album that will probably please fans of Lemmy as well.
