REVIEW: Disharmonic Orchestra - Ahead Nuclear Blast, 2002
7/10
Disharmonic Orchestra - Ahead - cover art The Austrian band Disharmonic Orchestra formed as early as 1987 and released three innovative death metal albums in the first half of the 90's before calling it quits in 1995. In the year 2000 the band reformed with three of the original members and they have now finished the work on their new highly anticipated album entitled "Ahead". The band was ahead of their time when they started out and they developed a highly unique style of their own with a mix of grindcore and death metal. Together with Pungent Stench they were one of the leading acts from the German speaking countries and now that both bands are alive and well again fans of innovative extreme metal should be very happy. "Ahead" is basically a very groovy death metal album with plenty of weird rhythms, heavy razor-sharp riffs and a fair dose of grindcore and nu-metal vocals. Unfortunately the songs of this album are way too similar to each other and there are no song that sticks out that much from the rest except for the wonderful "The Love I Hate". It is still a very good, solid album and old fans of the band should not be disappointed because they are still as weird and twisted as ever before. This is something for all of you who want something out of the ordinary.
