REVIEW: Dismember - Hate Campaign Nuclear Blast, 2000
7.5/10
Dismember - Hate Campaign - cover art With lyrics about the Holocaust, life and death as well as anti-religious statements the Swedish band Dismember creates another album to be classified as melodic death metal, although of the heavier kind, and to no surprise the label name is Nuclear Blast. The music is as usual highly technical and very melodic with aggressive growling that are pretty good. Unfortunately Dismember produces rather conventional death metal in the old Swedish style but they still do it with great skill and if you like this kind of music "Hate Campaign" will be a very interesting album. The band members are talented musicians I have to admit (but who isn´t if they are signed to Nuclear Blast?) and among them you can find the bass player Sharlee D´Angelo who used to be with King Diamond in Mercyful Fate, one of the big old names in metal. Sharlee also played in Kimberly Goss' band Sinergy for their album "Beware The Heavens" in 1999, another release worth checking out. Back to this one now... As I have already mentioned there is nothing really original with this release although it is a good way above average melodic metal album that could be worth spending a little money on. It was recorded and mixed at Das Boot Studios, Stockholm, April-May 1999 by the drummer Fred Estby who also produced it. Additional recordings made at Polar Studios by Stefan Boman who mastered the piece as well.
