REVIEW: Dissenter - Apocalypse Of The Damned Cold Blood Industries, 2002
6.5/10
Dissenter - Apocalypse Of The Damned - cover art Dissenter is one of the oldest bands on the Polish metal scene. Starting out in 1989 under the name Bloodlust they have seen the national scene flourish with bands like Vader, Behemoth, Decapitated and plenty of others taking the world with storm. The thing that most Polish bands have in common is that their style of playing is very close to the American brutal sound that bands like Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel invented only that they have taken the sound one step further by adding a personal touch and extra speed. Dissenter are lucky to have been blessed with a wonderful production job, courtesy of the Hertz Studio in Bialystok and this gives their first album on Cold Blood Industries a very powerful sound. Dissenter are doing their best to offer the world a new dose of technical and brutal death metal but since this has been done so many times before and they don't really display anything new to me I still wasn't very impressed with what I came to listen to. If you are a big fan of blasting death metal and Polish death metal in particular you might want to check out this release because the music is clearly of high quality, just not groundbreaking in any way. This is the biggest problem for metal bands today. There are thousands of bands out there trying to do their own thing but there are only a limited number of them who manage to create something that is unique. It is not easy but it is definitely a challenge.
