REVIEW: Dissimulation - Prakeikimas Ledo Takas Records, 2005
6.5/10
Dissimulation - Prakeikimas - cover art Lithuania's premier metal band - Dissimulation - bounce back with their second full-length album entitled "Prakeikimas". "Maras", their 2002 debut, did only surprise me quite a lot but it also impressed me with its intensity, quality production and creative song writing. Their sophomore effort does not live up to its predecessor in every department but it is still a worthy release for the band and I am sure many will appreciate their straight-forward thrashy black metal. The tempo is mostly mid-paced but there is some diversity which is one of the strengths that this album holds. Opening up is the most impressing song of the disc - "As Jusu Prakeikimas" - a very dynamic track that ranges from an atmospheric symphonic intro with obvious influences from classical music to folky melodies and aggressive black / thrash metal riffs. The closing track is built around a few simple supporting riffs but it is still a very enjoyable musical piece as well. Even though very few will understand the lyrics, which are entirely in Lithuanian, I admire their courage and decision to write in their native tongue. A decent album from a band that definitely deserves some attention outside the Baltic states.
