REVIEW: Distraught - Infinite Abyssal Encore Records, 2002
6.5/10
Distraught - Infinite Abyssal - cover art Distraught is a Brazilian band that was formed in the city of Porto Alegre back in 1990. I know very little about them but what I do know is that they play brutal death metal inspired by old American heroes but there are also some very unusual rhythm work that I don't know if I have heard from any other band before. The music of this disc is actually very nice to listen to and if you are a fan of Brazilian death metal in general you will probably not be disappointed with the performance from Distraught. The production has been handled very well too which hasn't been that common among American metal bands in general in the past. One thing that bothers me more than anything else when it comes to this album is that the vocalist doesn't sound very good when he leaves the darker growling and tries to scream. I don't know what it is but I am not very fond of that voice. Other than that this is a respectable death metal release with plenty of nice riffing and chaotic song structures. They may not be the next Sepultura but they have still managed to write ten good songs.
